Magento permissions

Magento store is a set of scripts which are interpreted by the PHP hypertext processor. Magento inherits the access permissions from the user under which PHP is running.

Magento files and folders at your FTP will require a particular set of permissions for Magento to run properly.

Generally 664 permissions for the files and 775 permissions for the folders will be enough. However, if you require to edit particular files 775 permissions will be required, so it is also possible to set 775 permissions for the files.

Additionally, if you are requesting assistance of our help desk team, our technical specialists will require an FTP account with on write permissions (775) for the extension and Magento files.

Please avoid applying 777 (world writable) permissions to the files and folders, for it is a major security flaw. This set of permissions will make the files/folders writable by eveyone.

We strongly advice referring to the corresponding documentation on file system permissions before applying any changes to your store.
