Installation

Clear the store cache under var/cache and all cookies for your store domain. This step eliminates almost all potential problems. It's necessary since Magento uses cache heavily.

1. Backup your store database and web directory
2. Extract the contents of the archive on your computer and navigate inside the extracted AW_Searchautocomplete-X.X folder
3. Using your FTP client upload 'app' directory to your store root. This would not overwrite any files, just add the extension to its folder
4. Using your FTP client upload 'skin' directory to your store root.
5. Place "searchautocomplete" folder into your design template folder.
   e.g. If your design folder name is "default"
   /app/design/frontend/default/default/template/searchautocomplete
   
   If your design folder name is "blank"
   /app/design/frontend/default/blank/template/searchautocomplete
   
   If your design folder name is "modern"
   /app/design/frontend/default/modern/template/searchautocomplete
   
   
6. Edit your "catalogsearch.xml". It is located in your design layout folder.
   e.g. If your design folder name is "default"
   /app/design/frontend/default/default/layout/catalogsearch.xml
   
   If your design folder name is "blank"
   /app/design/frontend/default/blank/layout/catalogsearch.xml
   
   If your design folder name is "modern"
   /app/design/frontend/default/modern/layout/catalogsearch.xml
   
   Find the line: <block type="core/template" name="top.search" as="topSearch" template="catalogsearch/form.mini.phtml"/> Comment it: <!-- <block type="core/template" name="top.search" as="topSearch" template="catalogsearch/form.mini.phtml"/> --> And add this line just below commented line: <block type="aw_searchautocomplete/view" name="top.search" as="topSearch" template="searchautocomplete/view.phtml"/>

That's all, the installation is complete now.
